Modern Campground and Cairn Consulting Group unveiled their latest collaborative report titled “Blended Travel: Embracing Short-Term Stays.” The report says that blended travel — integrating various travel styles and lodging options — has become standard among outdoor hospitality guests.
According to the February 2025 study, seven out of 10 travelers (70%) now combine different accommodations, such as campgrounds, RV parks, glamping resorts, hotels and short-term rentals, within a single trip.
This substantial shift underscores a critical need for campgrounds, RV parks and glamping destinations to position themselves prominently during travelers’ trip-planning phases, according to Modern Campground.
“This shift towards blended travel represents a fundamental change in traveler behavior, reshaping expectations and creating new opportunities for outdoor hospitality,” said Scott Bahr, president of Cairn Consulting Group.
“Our research indicates that travelers today are not just choosing a single type of accommodation or travel style. Instead, they’re seeking unique and varied experiences that blend seamlessly, often extending their stays due to remote work flexibility. Outdoor hospitality providers need to recognize this trend and actively market themselves as essential parts of these multifaceted journeys.”
The report identifies remote work as a significant driver of this blended travel trend, encouraging guests to transform traditional short weekend getaways into week-long adventures.
