Here in St. Louis, MO, we have a saying “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Heartland seemed to have the same thing in mind when they started building their 2016 Big Country 3950FB full-profile fifth wheel. As you walk around the unit, you will begin to notice the things that have set Big Country apart from the rest of the crowd. Frame-less windows give the 3950FB a premium look that will be continued on inside. The front and rear cap are painted. The paint has a gel coat finish, and not just the underbelly but even the docking station is all enclosed in a heated compartment. Then, there’s the hydraulic leveling jacks which, for those of you who have not had the pleasure of seeing them in action, are truly envy worthy. This Big Country has a extend time of 52 seconds while loaded and retract time of only 38 seconds (times based on 12 inch of travel). As you head toward the door, you will see a large door for one of the largest storage compartments you will ever see!
For those of you who aren’t real hip on the idea of camping, let me tell you, don’t say no until you’ve come and take a look at this fifth wheel. As soon as you step inside, you’re taken back by just how large and open the unit is, not to mention all of the residential furniture and appliances.
As you first step in the unit, immediately across from you is a half bath with plenty of storage and a beautiful glass bowl sink and modern brushed metal faucet, and yes, for those of you who were reading closely, I did say half bath. The 3950FB has 1.5 baths and, for anyone that’s ever gone camping with more the one person, I’m sure your with me jumping up and down for joy at the very thought.
Continuing to the left, you will enter the kitchen area with plenty of counter space, lots of storage, not to mention the full residential refrigerator. The center island has a large stainless steel double bowl sink and residential faucet with built-in sprayer. Rounding off this well-appointed kitchen is a slide-out Versa table and four chairs, three burner range, and convection microwave.
Moving along to the living area, you are once again greeted by something so far from the days of stick and tent camping you’ll wonder how you ever stayed in a tent. To your left, there is theater seating for two directly across from the fireplace and 46 inch HD LG TV, so you never have to miss a game again. In the far rear of the unit is a sofa sleeper to provide plenty of seating and also another sleeping area, if needed.
Heading toward the front of the unit, you’ll pass some storage on your right before entering the bedroom. The large master suite, if you will, has everything you need for many days ahead. The large king bed is perfect for a long nights sleep after a day full of camping fun. There is a dresser, TV, and even reading lights above the bed making it easy to see without having to have the overhead lights on. Going past the room, you’ll find yourself in a bathroom with plenty of space to get ready in and not feel like you’re giving up space to be camping. There is a medicine cabinet and the same sink and faucet as in the half bath. At the front of the unit is a large closet with plenty of hanging space, shelves, and even a spot for shoes or small folded items. Just next to that is another large closet with w/d prep and multiple shelves for storage as well.
That about sums up our tour of the Big Country 3950FB here at Byerly RV in St. Louis, MO.
